Last time a primary challenger won in what's now was 1942, when the legendary James Michael Curley beat Tom Eliot, who drafted most of the Social Security Act.

Ted Williams used his Hall-of-Fame speech to force HOF to induct Negro League greats who never shared his privilege. Was his greatest moment. Also, an example for white NFL players to use their leverage to end ban on Colin Kaepernick & Eric Reid. Only crickets.

And even with the best of intentions, stumping on law-and-order has a tendency to undermine the same. Because such rhetoric inevitably spotlights the speaker rather than the collective enterprise. 2/2

It's not an accident that hard-line law-and-order politicians are prone to criminal behavior. It's because they mean, "Law - as I declare it. Order - under my rule." 1/2

What Europe hasn't tried earnestly is a party that is honest about the challenges/tensions involved in immigration, but not anti-immigrant. You know, nuance. It might peel off some of the extremist vote, and the rest can't be won anyway. See

Thread. The left commits a strategic error when it cedes "originalism" to conservatives.

Many conservatives are treating immigration enforcement like they used to treat criminal justice: since these bureaucrats are on the right team, they can't possibly be incompetent or mismanaged, and more resources will surely mean better performance, defined by myopic "counts."
