Jessica Moraima Ventura Perez will be the Congresswoman’s guest to the State of the Union on Tuesday. Ventura Perez is the mother of Jaideliz Moreno Ventura, a 13-year old girl who died in January on the Puerto Rican Island of Vieques.
Vieques has been without an adequate hospital since hurricane Maria forced the closure of the hospital in Vieques in September 2017. The nearly 9,000 people who live there have to, in an emergency, be flown to the main island of Puerto Rico, or take a ferry which is unreliable.
“The delay in restoring health services on Vieques is symptomatic of how the Trump Administration has so callously treated Puerto Rico, first after Maria, and now, following the earthquakes,” the Congressman Velázquez said.

I interviewed Jaidleiz's mom her shortly after the 13yo girl died. They family claims the Dr. at the only functioning clinic on the island struggled to assess what was wrong, & didn't have proper equipment was necessary to save her life.https://youtu.be/3zE6FwERtAw

Inserting in this thread the editor of ENd Newspaper who previously accused FL Rep Darren Soto for being “politiquero” for inviting an earthquake victim to the President Trump. @TorresGotay Is Nydia a “politiquera” as well? David, this is the kind of biased press we have here
Strange isn’t it? Torres Gotay would NEVER accuse Velázquez of playing politics. I wonder if it’s because Soto is a vocal statehood supporter while Velasquez has historically taken a more anti-statehood position (although she’s softened that stance considerably in recent years).
