It's still dropping. The number of abortions is lower, the rate of abortions per woman is dropping, and the ratio of abortions (abortions per live births) is dropping. The reasons for this are varied and complex. /2https://www.guttmacher.org/gpr/2019/09/us-abortion-rate-continues-drop-once-again-state-abortion-restrictions-are-not-main …

Part of this is the result of big cultural forces, many of them interrelated. There's more contraception, there's a "sex recession," teenage pregnancies are diminishing, but it's also important to point out that the pro-life movement is NOT just political. It's personal. /3

It begins with personal moral decisions -- with the simple decision of a pro-life woman and family to resolve to protect life themselves, the decision to have babies no matter the life circumstances surrounding the pregnancy. /4

It continues with the decision to encourage, love, and support women in your family and immediate circle of friends, to stand with them not just emotionally and spiritually, but often financially and materially when they're pregnant and uncertain about the future. /5

It then extends into volunteering to serve, love, and encourage young women and families you didn't know before -- through churches and crisis pregnancy centers -- to create a spiritual and social safety net where none existed before. /6

Those with financial means sustain these crisis pregnancy centers. Those with legal skills help keep them open. In this process, moving from the personal to the corporate, pro-life Americans have the unique ability to save lives even when they lose votes. /7

Of course politics matters. Of course judges matter. But look back at the chart at the start of this thread. The pro-life movement at its best represents the generational, personal commitment of millions of Americans, a commitment that can prevail even when Washington fails. /8

I'm not much for "arc of history" arguments, but there is such a thing as cultural momentum. And there has been momentum for life for 30 years. There are still way too many abortions. There is still way too much heartbreak. But life is winning. /end

Well, our birth rate has plummeted David. That means pregnancy rates have plummeted... does anybody have stats on the % of pregnancy ending in selective abortion ?
-
Linked in the thread. Those rates are decreasing as well.
