Agree. As a regular Commentary listener, his (de)evolution was amusing to watch. By his final episode he had fully devolved into an Am Greatness caricature. Noah Rothman’s patient tolerance of Sohrab’s perpetual whiny pearl-clutching was profoundly entertaining.

Manners and decency are not merely about the feelings of the hearer. They are about the character of the speaker. I don't want to become what I oppose.

Several years ago I was charged with teaching middle schoolers the importance of manners. I asked them if they knew why manners were important. None of them did. I then asked why engines needed motor oil. I was quickly told that the oil kept the parts from rubbing together too+

Mr. French, I disagree with you fundamentally on some issues, and my position on those issues is far from theoretical. By today's norms, I should hate you. But in fact, I feel the exact opposite. I admire your recognition of everyone's humanity. /1
