No, I think as time goes on some of these issues will win out majorities, and they will be accepted by the next generation. We are too close constantly. Always mixing. New issues will arise to fight over.

"What changed?" Mostly that "religious liberty" became code for "businesses and government offices discriminating against gays" (or rather, that became unacceptable). But of course, most D candidates are still churched, and will continue to be. This article is nonsense.
-
"Religious liberty" has ALWAYS been code for "freedom to discriminate against gays."

Always found it striking that “Follow the Constitution!” Republicans seem to forget the separation of church & state part of the 1st amend. Evangelicals have been so successful at cramming Christianity down everyone’s throat for so long they don’t recognize the first amendment.

This is a good analysis sir, but you miss two material components. I would point to Ralph Reed, Falwell, Gingrich and the new political Christian Right and Moral Majority. The initiated divisiveness making enemies of those outside. Then came the decisive SCOTUS appointments

Not at all. One side believes they are the Chosen Ones and the other a bunch of Satan-worshipping sinners. Plus, the split isn’t 85-15%, as it is in Sunni-Shia.

What does “sacred” even mean in the sociopolitical context any more? I see very little difference between the cultural warriorism of many fellow evangelicals and that of other conservatives, apart from a few extra God mentions and some Bible verses.
-
I mean, I would wager real money that a majority of them would allow what they heard on Fox News last night to shape their understanding of what the Bible says on any subject, rather than vice versa.
