Now, the Trinity Wallet is an Electron app. These scare me, from a software supply chain perspective. It's going to pull in hundreds - possibly thousands - of dependencies. Any one of those could cause a problem. Was that the issue? Who knows.
I personally don't think an app handing critical private keys should be Electron, but that's me.
I guess what is more interesting is that they decided to "pause" the system because of a vulnerability in the wallet. What does this tell us?
Firstly, they have the ability to "pause" a decentralised cryptocurrency. It really should not be possible to do this. Yes, there are plans to remove the coordinator, but Iota has a market cap of $895,633,877.
Secondly, it tells us that they don't have confidence in the protocol. If it was just a wallet vulnerability, then there would be no need to pause. They didn't know.
Thirdly, it shows that there is massive homogeneity in the wallets used by users. Most of them use Trinity. This is not the same with most other currencies.
Fourthly, no one is complaining about IoT systems not working. That is because it isn't used for IoT.
