WTF... On Linux, Amazon Prime video in FF/Chrome seems to only go up to 480p... But will go up to 1080p just fine if you make your user agent look like a windows machine...
Google actually does offer a CDM for Linux, it ships with their desktop Chrome builds (although I guess it's the same as what they ship on ChromeOS?), and is compatible with Firefox, Chromium etc. since it's just the standard EME CDM interface.

to clarify for your readers and ours: Chrome OS is partially developed under the open source Chromium OS project. ... whereas Chrome OS code is only supported by Google and its partners and only runs on hardware designed for the purpose.

When I say Chrome, I mean the standalone Chrome web browser. Google provides official Linux builds for Debian/Ubuntu and Fedora, both of which have integrated widevine support. https://www.google.com/chrome/

Right. Yes, I know this very well and I know you do :) I guess when I think of Chrome I don't think of it as "Linux" per se because it's a locked down distro that you can only use on Chrome computing platforms from Google. I know it's based on Gentoo now. But good point. thanks!
