WTF... On Linux, Amazon Prime video in FF/Chrome seems to only go up to 480p... But will go up to 1080p just fine if you make your user agent look like a windows machine...

Can't confirm that. With my Linux Mate machine under firefox it's no problem to get content in 1080p even without modifying the user agent.

Interesting. I wonder if it depends on country or something? I'm testing from the UK.

pretty simple. Linux is open-source and not "secure" in the eyes of the content owners. I know that's up for grabs but that's why in a nutshell. Google also doesn't offer a CDM for Linux just their version in Chrome browser on Chrome.

Google actually does offer a CDM for Linux, it ships with their desktop Chrome builds (although I guess it's the same as what they ship on ChromeOS?), and is compatible with Firefox, Chromium etc. since it's just the standard EME CDM interface.

What tools do you use to do this? I like watching things in Plex even if they are from other providers.

Hardware acceleration is only possible once you've stripped the DRM :P (if they used hw accel, you could just hook the data as it gets passed to the decoder) This is why DRM is stupid.
