DYK: That "Say-guuuuuh" chant at the opening of Sonic 1 took up 1/8 of the game's memory! That is more than an entire level!

@DaveVoyles And Sonic was on a 4mbit cartridge (512k in today's money), so it's more like 4% for that opening sting. :-)

@DaveVoyles Rofl. That's utter bollocks.Seriously.512k cart;1/8th of that is 64k. There's no way that was a 64k sample (not even in stereo!)

@DaveVoyles We didn't get above 11khz sample rates in games until the early 90's (Doom was 11khz 8bit).

@DaveVoyles I suspect this is more a case of a producer spouting off a bunch of crap. I believe that's their job tho. :-)

@Fortress_Craft oh yeah, producers love to throw out senseless facts to get some talk going about a game

@DaveVoyles Given how iconic it became, it would be interesting if it truly only went in 'cuz they suddenly had a bunch of space!

@DaveVoyles The mind boggles at fitting so much into 512k tho. I don't miss having to work in a half-meg boundary anymore! :-)

@Fortress_Craft yeah really, especially when you consider how large a single high res texture can be in a game these days.
