Welp, Jasper just raised a $125 million Series A at a $1.5 billion valuation. From launch to unicorn in 18 months. πŸ¦„ We’re one of the fastest-growing startups of all time, but our journey to this point was FAR bumpier than you may think. A thread… 🧡

13-year-old Dave would think it's extremely cool that 33-year-old Dave is partnering with Sports Illustrated...

There are people using Jasper to explore their writing itch. There are people using Jasper to advertise their businesses. There are people using Jasper to write their first book. Can’t help but feel proud of what we built.

Picture this… You need a specific idea. But nothing comes to mind. You go for a walk, shower or a cup of coffee. Still nothing. Now imagine you write a prompt. And AI serves up some starter ideas. 3 were bad. 1 was exactly what you needed. See where I'm going? πŸ‘€

YouTube was originally designed as a video-dating website. If history repeats itself… I think a lot of AI-based businesses will also be forced to β€œre-invent” themselves. What do you think?

People love AI for its ability to take stuff off their plates. No one wants to work on the weekends. The majority of people want to spend time with family and friends. AI is just a tool to get them there.

In a world where everyone wants easy: Embrace hardship. If you choose easy, you'll have a lot of competition. If you choose hard, you'll be playing by yourself. Easy games have linear returns. Hard games have exponential returns.

Great skills for the next 5-10 years: 1. Adaptability (the world is changing fast) 2. Critical thinking (information supply is growing fast) 3. Empathy (discordance has been amplified by media) Would you add any?

Business is all about people. Bad relationship with co-founders β€” likely to fail. Bad relationship with team members β€” likely to fail. Bad relationship with customers β€” likely to fail. Hard skills are great. But soft skills are a must.

The best reward of building a business is having a team that shares the same vision working towards a common goal. I'm never bored. And I love it.

Our society is killing our men. We’re trading the β€œgreatest generation” for boys who can shave.

7 million men aged 25-54 in the USA are not working What are they doing? Volunteering? Worship? Care-work? β€œPlaying Call of Duty stoned” They report 2000 hours a year of screen time (w/ pain meds) This phenomenon is far less severe in Western Europe wsj.com/podcasts/opini

Living on the same street as friends has to be the highest form of living. Unified vision. Raising kids together. Shared resources. Forced serendipity. We’re working on this in Austin. Who else has done this successfully or unsuccessfully?

5 years after becoming competitors with (Fomo & Proof), I finally met him for lunch today. Talking software is fun, but what we really got jazzed about was… buying all the houses around us so all of our friends could live on the same street. Anyone else doing this?

Sometimes I’m still shocked at how different I am than β€œthe elites” in the US. This tweet (and thought process behind it) is otherworldly to me. And that continues to be one of my greatest strengths.

I went to MIT & studied CS, one year under SBF When he graduated in 2014, the place where all the top tier engineers went was Palantir If you couldn't pass that interview, then it was Dropbox/FB etc And the third-tier was quant/finance, ie Jane Street SBF was tier-3 bad eng

UI matters. Distribution matters. Speed matters. Customer trust matters. Models matter. Founders, don’t let AI twitter trick you into thinking only one of these is important.

Lots of VC uncertainty about value capture and moats in a GPT-3+ world. Here's a company that does $1M+ in daily revenue. It's "just" a skin on top of dreambooth, which is "just" a skin on top of stable diffusion. Making something that 8B users can use = lots of value capture twitter.com/marckohlbrugge…

Build something similar to what everyone's building: - Tight competition - Work hard to stay in the game - Hard to stand out Building something unique: - Little to no competition - No need to overwork - Easier to stand out I chose the latter.

Unpopular opinion: Copywriters shouldn’t be worried about AI. It’s not copy (alone) that gets people to buy. It’s the: 1. Offer 2. Angle 3. Big idea Get that down by yourself. And let AI help you with the copy. Win-Win.

The best AI companies are rapidly: - trying to churn off OpenAI - hiring anyone from OpenAI, Deepmind, etc they can find - bringing on a first brand marketer Despite raising $$$, they’re trapped in a commodity spaceβ€”and are starting to realize

Money loves speed. That’s why AI is here to stay. β€’ Faster marketing campaigns. β€’ Faster social media content. β€’ Faster articles. The content is often better, too. AI is just like another tool. It takes time to master. But it’s worth doing it.

Jasper should be everywhere you want him, when you want him. We recently released our own great Chrome extension, but we need more firepower there. After talking to many companies w/ great browser extensions, I fell in love with the Outwrite product and team in Australia.
