Oh, I can easily believe this. It just flies in the face of the simplistic "mobile rules, desktop drools" drivel you find all over Twitter.
Confirmation bias, recency bias, failure to consider other contexts, etc.

Yeah, no. 
I think the device usage data have been showing some stabilization - mobile use still growing, but "tool fit" trends are becoming noticeable. Instances of "best tool for the need" are becoming more clear.
And like cameras, the best one is often the one you are already holding, using, or typing on.
that combined with the realization that while mobile numbers are MUCH bigger than desktop, there it a category of use (e.g. business/creative) that still, and for a long time, will keep using desktop form factor (even though it may be new minimalist systems like ChromeOS)
Or the 90% of people IN many Starbuckses with a laptop open. Seen some (when I do my snooping) ordering from the computer to reduce getting up time.
