Forgive me if this is an obvious question, I don't cook much... is there a reason ovens and ranges are attached to each other?

Same principle behind the “always on” AGA stoves. Re: separates, it can be ergonomically better not to bend down to get things into / out of an oven; induction cooktops are safer. That said, had an Electrolux once - roller glide racks FTW.

The stove I have now used to be coal burning. It has burners, an oven, warmers, and was meant to heat the house too.https://twitter.com/stubbornella/status/928334330161594373?s=21 …

I've never cooked on one, but I'd love to try, though I think I'd be nervous about baking in one.

The oven doesn’t work right now... and came with a thermometer inside... so I’m guessing it is unreliable :)

I'm sure you'll have it operating and perfectly calibrated in no time. :)

Why are railways the width they are? Roman wagons were two horse's asses wide, so were their roads, so became the rails (and then our roads and cars.) When we look back far enough we see the seeds of so many modern devices! :)
