They'll use it as a way to avoid difficult decisions. "let's test this ½-baked UI, see what happens" or "let's test 2 different ½-baked UIs"

If you put sloppy design work into usability testing, the researcher ends up with a huge amount of analysis & recommendation work to do.

So never take anything you know to be "not right" into usability testing, it's wasteful. Use design crits, get feedback...

I've also seen teams use lab testing to settle disagreements or to prove that one design (known to be better) is actually better. #NotDebate
