For those of you that love and use it, what is it about Material Design that's better than everything that came before?

: Quite the difficult trick!
-
in physics and chaos theory, these systems are self-organizing and exhibit emergent patterns: adaptive, not prescriptive.
-
sorry to hijack but with best intentions these systems are built on shifting sands so only fundamentals are relevant
-
"Fundamentals" (or "principles") are precisely why good systems adapt and bad systems break when the sands shift.
-
that's why I feel the fundamentals should be more rigid and the principles more fluid
-
what is the line between "fundamental" and "principle"? I think we're probably saying the same thing.
-
any design movement needs identifiable core tenets (fundamentals) application/ interpretation inform the principles
