@DaveHogue apparently you know about Fireworks? For less memory usage, is it better to copy a set of shapes over and over or use a symbol?
@photo_matt complicated answer - depends on the type & complexity of symbol. Try grouping large sets of complex vectors first, then symbols.

@DaveHogue there was a weird error/bug with a symbol in a group. 3,5GB! I went into the symbol and back out and memory dropped. -
@photo_matt if you stop using a symbol, open Symbols Panel, go to options menu, "select all unused", and delete to clear memory & clean file -
@DaveHogue weird thing is that Fw then warns me that the selected symbol is still in use -
@photo_matt FW has trouble detecting symbols in symbols - editing a symbol often results in changes only to those on there own, not embedded

@photo_matt symbols in symbols only work reliably when they are simple, non-rich symbols. It's generally not a good practice. -
