@davehogue solution was "if we're not aligned and at least engaged from strategy, then we can't translate the business needs into great ux."

@davehogue …and vice versa. And that worked, and has continued to work ever since, because it's simply true. -
@mustefaJ how many times did things fail before others listened to this rationale? how many times did you need to "prove" success? -
@davehogue … what I did learn though, is that you can't be everywhere at once, and have your hands in all the things. -
@mustefaJ yes - need to focus & start somewhere. I hear many UXers say, "I just did it anyway, without consensus or support, just for proof" -
@davehogue Yeah but there's that mentality of "proof", etc. Gots to *gots to* !gots to! avoid that. -
@mustefaJ I hear business people equate "proof" with ROI - demonstrate your value, then we'll consider including you. Very demeaning. -
@DaveHogue the roi is... 'Then why on earth did you hire me. Lol, you're spending the money already you silly goose.' Then quit. ;) - 1 more reply

@DaveHogue The Command & Control power structure in general. Also the view that IT is an internal agency, instead of a business partner. -
@lhid Sounds like you have some big organizational development issues... thanks for sharing your experiences. -
@DaveHogue It’s a work in progress, but I remain positive... I know I’m not alone in the struggle. And thanks for asking the question :-) -
@lhid good to be positive. I'll be talking in two weeks about UX driven innovation, and strategic partnership hurdles are a common problem. -
@DaveHogue Just what I need! Where will you be talking? And will there be a recording? -
@lhid UX Strategy Summit in SF, may repeat the talk in July if it goes well - not sure if they record, but I'll post slides afterward. - 1 more reply

@DaveHogue a) is really the chicken and egg game. I need resources to do UX in a way that proves value of those resources. -
@daveixd hence the common phrase "let's be scrappy."

@DaveHogue b) inclusion is such a big piece but those involved in strategy won't participate due to perceived & real time constraints. -
@daveixd "UX slows us down by asking about things we already know"? We don't have time to do it well? do it right? think about the problem? -
@DaveHogue Yes, all of that sounds familiar in many places I’ve worked.
