Can’t stand the way TV chefs use the word “unctuous.” They mispronounce it (as “unk-shus”) & misuse it. It’s not generally a positive term.
@A_Silvers mmmmm, I like all of my food to be oily and greasy. Unctuous FTW! (It seems to be evolving to mean luxurious and rich...)

@DaveHogue I’ve occasionally wondered if they have it confused with “sumptuous.” -
@A_Silvers hmmm, possibly, but they usually say "unctuous" when talking about mouth-feel, whereas "sumptuous" is about an entire meal, no? -
@DaveHogue Hadn’t given it that much thought. :-) -
@A_Silvers yeah, you're just fussing at the television, probably procrastinating. :-) -
@DaveHogue Not even procrastinating—just using the TV as background noise. Top Chef Masters marathon = many, many instances of “unctuous.” -
@A_Silvers Anne Burrell, am I right? That's her word. :-) -
@DaveHogue No, this was a Bravo show. Curtis Stone, mainly, but the chefs were using it too. -
@A_Silvers it's contagious! - 1 more reply
