I completely agree on the "reaction and response" nature of his behavior. He feeds off of the positive responses (and acceptance) of others. You can plainly see that he seeks affirmation from the crowds, and it only needs to be for that moment, not enduring.

He'll say what it takes to get a positive response from those around him to get what he wants, so we shouldn't be surprised when he exhibits an ever changing position, opinion, idea, or plan. The goal will always be personal gain, but the method and message will change by minute.
