I like @DaveHogue's framing of "high data density experiences." I usually say VUIs don't do well with complex inputs/outputs, but--while that's clear & concise--it's oversimplistic. Here it is: Boolean search & filtering is easy by VUI, damn complicated by GUI. "What are prices of morning flights from SF to Las Vegas on Thursday or Friday and returning in the evening on Sunday or Monday?" Flexible date range selection, specifying time, etc. = MESSY GUI.

Completely agree. The challenge is that the best output of that Boolean search is context-dependent. I am *hungry* to do more research on multi-modal IxD.

Smart home devices with screens are the place to be, and it's poised to explode as voice assistants get added to TVs, remotes (a la xfinity), laptops (a la Cortana or Siri), and specialized devices for which the primary interaction is voice. :) Oh, and phones. ;)
