Any produce imported by plane will have a high carbon footprint and should be avoided, but a great many foodstuffs are imported by ship or overland, and this has a rather small impact compared to the other environmental costs of producing food.
UK organic dairy milk is much less bad than this. And well managed pasture can help with carbon sequestration, whereas monoculture plant growing using tilling etc is really bad for soil health and carbon
I'm all for organic, but I'm not sure the figures would back you up. Do you have figures for the GHG emissions associated with organic dairy farming?
I seem to recall that I stopped using oatmilk for environmental reasons but cannot recall why. Palmoil? Ecological footprint? Carbon?
Cruelty to oats?
What about organic milk? cows are raised free on pastures, with no cruelty and no chemicals (it exists, really)
I buy organic, but there are still environmental costs, even from organic farming. For example organic cows produce plenty of methane.
The article fails to include GHG associated with transportation, we dont grow almonds, rice, coconuts or soya in the UK, all of these have to be imported. Only oats have potential in the UK. Even so, shopping locally has a much lower carbon foot print and is more sustainable.
I am all for buying local produce, but it is a simple fact that food transport is usually a small part of its footprint (unless transported by air). For example, buying organic almonds from Spain would have a much lower footprint than buying local factory reared pork or chicken.
