It's more about creators and fan outreach than how it effects me. It seems like YT wants to stifle reach anyway they can and it's a small favor for notifications to work without limitations to maximize reach to the fans. They should make it easier, not harder, for creators.

This change affects all video makers. Therefore maybe it doesn't hurt them. If fans want to watch videos they can just go on the channel.

True. But busy schedules don't always permit them to stay up to date with uploads, hence the usefulness of unrestricted notifications, esp if a channel uploads frequently within a day or twos time.

If they're busy they might have no time for excessive notifications when you can just go on the channel.

That's true. But that's still limiting a creators reach regardless when notifications don't go out to people who want them. But we'll have to see how this change will affect creators both big and small in the long run or if it's a temporary tweak YT is testing.

It sounds like you expect the effect of this change will be fewer total Youtube views. ...maybe that would be a good thing?

Tbh I'm curious to it's overall effect but I know big channels won't take too much of a hit. It's small and moderately followed channels I'm curious about (as it makes up the bulk of what I follow)

You may be right, just have to wait and see. Ftr I think youtube is pretty trash in many ways.

It's overall quality has really declined, I think. And they're slack on many things (rampant false copyright claims, flagging, take downs, etc) and it's almost to the point where, if not for sponsers, most creators would've dropped out.

I would abolish the trending section.

Yeaaah. I never check it. Mainly cuz most times the content I see pushed are either from big names from the bigger pond of media, or it's some clickbaiting tripe and it just...idk. Trending doesn't seem to reflect the site too well, either.

It lowers my approval of humanity overall.

Same! Some things that trend make me question humanity. Like the bad\cringey vine\tik-tok invasions and stuff that rip off channels like Mr. Beast (dont personally follow him but i've seen clones)
