I cannot believe my biggest argument today is with fellow gender researchers about "incel", and my desire to recognize it as "new" (or at least mutated) and their desire to say it's just "misogyny" and same-shit-diff-day. Can we all agree it is unmistakably fucked up? #phdlife
You missed the "mutation" part. I've read vast amounts on what could be considered "MRA" movements (before they were called that) for the last 135 years in the US, and it's not that it's "new", it's that incel is like Red Pill on crystal meth, and that should cause closer looks

The only thing I've "missed" is how seamlessly this behavior and thought pattern is merging with what Kimmel calls aggrieved entitlement (AE) to become less fringe and waaaay more mainstream - ergo why Im seeing AE in my diss work.

Still curious about the temporality you’re attaching to “new.” MRA movements, Red Pill, incels- not new in my lifetime. Learning is a process; no shade if this is new to your research. But the idea that you’d write a diss on men & masculine gender and *not* intersect w/AE ...?!
