This is probably one of my more controversial takes. I have no problem with ballot harvesting or even the drop box idea that our local GOP had. I think even saying I’ll come pick it up is definitely OK. But the ballot box thing at gun stores, I don’t understand. Especially calling them “official” is just odd. Also, I’d guess the distance between the unofficial vs the nearest official box is minimal.

I would also understand having someone come by to help you vote and allowing the person to drop off the ballot for you after. But the gun store boxes feels like an attempt to suppress the vote and sow discord.

I guess going back to it only being on their website, I don't personally feel like it was an attempt at voter suppression but I could be acting nieve right now. Just logically the steps don't add up to me. I think it was a good faith effort to secure their votes but it missed.

If they had followed the same security protocols as official boxes, I might see your point. But cardboard boxes with loose lids, for envelopes with the voter's name and address printed on the outside of each, does not seem like an innocuous mistake.

Here's another take. What if... their plan was to use these collected ballots as "evidence" of R votes found dumped in a canal, garbage somewhere? That's more up their alley. I'm guessing no authorized name on back, so no way to trace back.
