To be fair almost every single news piece I've seen published about this story has had a headline framing it as if Newsom wants pedophilia to be okay. It's seriously worrying. So much journalistic malpractice.

I like Newsom. I didn’t vote for him but he has handled COVID & education during this time bette than any other governor of a populated state. We have one of the lowest case fatality rates & has been really even handed with this.

What the bill does is treat LGBT people the same way straights are under identical circumstances-straights were never required to register but LGBT people were. Equal treatment now.

Actually, this bill now treats everyone the same by allowing the judge to exercise discretion re registration under certain circumstances. This whole "Dems just legalized pedophilia!" thing is out of hand, and being ignorantly promoted by locals.
