I read an article recently that suggested that some city and county court systems are funded by tickets and fines. Do laws requiring court systems to partially finance themselves incentivize escalation of interactions between police and civilians?
It’s interesting you ask that. I am actually trying to figure out exactly how our system is set up. I was interested because I think it sets up a conflict of interest for ticketing.

I think revenue-driven policing does set up conflicts of interest. It creates pressure to escalate everyday interactions and it would incentivize police to ticket poor and powerless areas of town.
