Veteran here I have said the same thing for a long time. The missions are 100% different.
I think the fact that Police Departments see prior military experience as a positive tells you what you need to know about how they view their roles in the community.

Another point is military has much stricter use of force/rules of engagement. They’re better trained and better at not freaking out and killing people because they feel threatened. On the whole, they cause less problems.
