Economics is overrun by racists. At U of Mich a prof made us buy a textbook that spent an entire chapter arguing that immigrants of color refuse to assimilate thus aren’t beneficial to the US like white immigrants in the early 1900s

Not quite. Professors apply for emeritus status (not always granted). In CSU system, faculty with this status can still teach for 5 years on a 1/2 time basis. Still considered retired.
