In what sense? How can a group or individual with a unique idea/product seeking to profit from their labor be socialist?

I view socialism as a power structure. Small business owner’s profits are usually much closer to what their employees make and typically have to be more involved in the day to day operations thus sharing the responsibility for it’s success.

I hear what you’re saying in that sense. People complain that corporations with big salary disparities are guilty of “run-away capitalism” in which the wealth is concentrated at the top. I would argue that the situation you described is more equitable capitalism, not socialism.
