To be fair, the people don't often get much of a choice. The people in a rural town I used to live in fought against it twice. Once over the initial store and then again when they made it a Super Store. The city ignored the people. It destroyed the town's small businesses.

Okay but what you're missing is it's important to consolidate businesses. Small businesses allow too much diversification in the labor market by distributing capital away from the ultra-wealthy.
