Virtue Signaling and Pathological Altruism are closer to antonyms than synonyms. The pathological altruism critique of open borders or SJW generally is deeply misguided conceptually, and counterproductive politically.
Ironically, those who make such well meaning but misguided pathological altruism critiques of the left---often at substantial professional and social cost---are much closer to pathological altruists than the leftists they criticize.
Fundamentally, the problem with the SWJ left is much more sinister (and structural) than "inordinate and misguided empathy." Flattering them with this "critique" is a losing proposition.
It's more hyper-moralism than "pathological altruism".
