19 years ago, at 8:45 AM, our generation was changed forever. I remember every minute as we were attacked in Washington, New York, and Pennsylvania. Ordered to evacuate, many of us refused to leave and instead rallied at the Capitol police station and planned for a response.

Just a few weeks later the Marines of Camp Pendleton, in my district, were mobilized. I found myself standing in the control center of the fifth fleet in Bahrain. I watched in real time, as our brave men and women launched the first wave of retribution against Osama bin Laden.

Today, just as on those two Fateful days 19 years ago, I remain committed as I was then to all necessary efforts to protect our country and our allies from those who would do us harm.
