The other factor is that we still need a few more generations of battery tech to make electric cars practical. Cell phones are pushing this evolution not cars

Tesla is running on hype and the possibility of bringing about something groundbreaking and disrupting. I have no idea if they're going to pull it off, but I hope we see Tesla pulling through and refusing to die long enough to be a success.
