More practically speaking, with regards to psychological suffering (severe depression and the like), I think a reasonable amount of time to try both neurochemical and psycho-therapy, to see if the situation is truly beyond cure, is best.

Every person can, of course, commit suicide if their situation is truly dire enough. And many do eventually. They jump info front of cars, hang themselves, shot themselves etc, usually getting discovered by a loved one, if they have any to begin with.

But whether it be a terminal cancer patient or a 26 y/o student who has wanted to die since they were a child, eventually, I think one has to realize that not everyone thinks life is worth living & it would be cruel to force them to commit a violent act upon themselves to end it.
