I was trying to illustrate that monetizing and commercializing everything is totally the wrong goal. Technological progress should tend to free us from some considerations, not reduce lives and people to cold calculations. I could go on for hours about this, but it gets boring.

A related thought: GDP is basically a measure of how much money we spend, so obsessing about it as a proxy for progress or material well-being is about as silly as trying to encourage higher food consumption. The greatest part of wealth is not having to worry or think about it.
