I’m not sure what was claimed that you’re disagree with but the vision that was sold was not impossible. Totally willing to believe that the hype exceeded the current state in many cases, hype gets out of control.

vision of single droplet analysis across hundreds of diagnostics? mathematically impossible without continuous blood flow monitoring - molecular diversity & chemistry dynamics make it almost impossible. example ref: https://doi.org/10.1309/AJCP1L7DKMPCHPEH …

Was Theranos ever really single droplet? I heard in 2016 they were testing with only > 160 uL. That paper seems to suggest over 100 uL is possible.

I don’t know that stuff, when I want to know something about a company I ask them. Journalist mangle facts pretty badly. I doubt they ever approached a product as single droplet but they probably did/do some testing/prototyping.

i dont have the access that you do. journalists aside, there was no effort to get outside opinions on the work - no peer review or anything similar. very obvious flaws in the hw designs could have been avoided. but who am i, right?

I haven't heard of any hw flaws, did you hear of something specific? The medicare complaints appeared to all be about lab practices / CLIA.

designing controlled environments - sw / hw / bio - i see flaws across the entire stack. common problems in instruments include: being an open environment, lack of redundancy of sensors, no networking, no cross-calibration - generally, not being designed using modern approaches.

maybe so, i'm not saying anything is perfect, but i have to call out this ganging up behavior, it goes way beyond what is known personally.

the pervasive assumption is young women know little. beyond tweets, what i have read of data from the theranos was compelling

the biggest public error i can see was not putting a lid on the hype, but that is a minefield. i can tell you i had every encouragement...

...to be on the cover of magazines when my VCs wanted me to go out there and get offers to raise money. journalists hype... its what they do
