good thing omicron tends to cause shallow (short, less severe) covid if you already had exposure or vaccines. politicians and bureaucrats will declare victory against covid this coming year i think, but victory will be going to our T cells most likely

not peer reviewed paper i’m reacting to but basically the antibody response is evaded but the t cells are not. probably this is circumstantial evidence in favor of this evolving in a T cell depleted person (maybe HIV+) hopefully omicron won’t learn to evade T cells too

my only question about that hypothesis is why it didn't recombine with any HIV sequences maybe the person was on HAART therapy but still immunocompromised. it's beyond me in any case.

i think recombination is much (exponentially) more likely with long shared strings. not just coinfection
