Have you seen anything about the ability of telescopes to observe exo-planets if built in space? Like, what can a 100m or 1000m mirror see?

Oh wow. I think the big idea is if you have a shade that is aligned, you can block the direct light from the star, and so you can see the planet spectra, and the orbits from the doppler and period.

The shade can be very large and far away. You'd have a constellation of them for all the nearest stars.

yeah, so you could look into eg the pleiades or a nebula or other star cluster. i would look to the oldest and most complex element rich star systems for signs of life.
