encourage people to share it on a youtube channel video, which they can make public if they want (though idk if the teens would have to be ver 18 for you to encourage this?)

annual absurd contests often have viral reach if things can be condensed to a reel, it's the perfect format for tv, good chance for multigenerational teams. i have a feeling that mom & dad knowledge is handy ;) e.g. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/one-true-josh-emerges-from-field-of-fun-bd20pkxhs#:~:text=Joshua%20Swain%2C%2022%2C%20an%20engineering,group%20full%20of%20Josh%20Swains …https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_ironing …

Handy yes but I really want to keep adult hands off this — maybe we can do it over a series of a couple weeks and have some guest adults (like you!) give a pro tip that they could integrate in. I really don’t want this to be a “competition” for who has the best parents.

how about like in "who wants to be a millionaire" you get a lineline during the competition, you can call anyone you want

I like the phone a friend option -- pretty cool!

so were you thinking a two stage competition, an open video competition / entry phase, and then an in person competition? pretty much says this is an annual summer or spring competition imo

I am staying away from this being called a competition -- there are elements of that but I want teams to feel like it's a collaborative effort to make something fun and cool. And yes some things will be showcased but no "winners." And yes, both online first and then in person.

I figure good to pilot over winter break while teens might have more time. Our event is in July so we could have multiple rounds.

yeah winter break. it's a good idea. really think you want to encourage, like, siblings or school friends to make stuff together in one "league" -- building together is so much fun

Oh definitely. I see armies of teens on this. Solo is fine but the more the merrier.
