Elon Musk is giving $100 million to anyone who can find a way to pull carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere or oceans and sequester it durably and sustainably. Personally, I think $100 million is a bargain.

yeah, fossil fuels represent millions of years worth of plants being burned in a few centuries, so we need a whole different kind of solution (based on Carboniferous Period as being 60M y long)

AFAIK biomass mostly doesn't permanently sequester carbon. The majority of the carbon in a plant just gets turned back into CO2 when the plant dies Fossil fuels come from (AFAIK) a very small percentage being sequestered over a very long period of time.
