Honestly, with recording the issue is significantly worse than with playback, and with a USB hub with proper power supply with clean DC even recording is measurably *perfect*. (I’m using a Behringer UMC22 connected to the USB hub in my monitor)
digital cables are a transport for analog / electrical noise, too. the analog circuitry is right there. that’s why optical provides better isolation

Either the noise is small enough to be compensated for by regular circuitry, in which case the issue doesn't exist or it's not, in which case it'll likely also affect other devices in the same AC circuit, so you'll have the same issue unless you power your DAC via a battery bank
