Depends on what you expect of the assistant; are they simply an assistant or are you mentoring them for a position in the company that they are not ready for yet?
-
some things are so particular that you can’t hire for the role, you have to audition them for the part. some assistants could more than 3 or even 5x some execs or creative people. even more probably, getting them out of bad situations

A great assistant is genuinely priceless and if you don't understand then you haven't been or had one. It's practically like gaining a sixth sense. This person anticipates your needs and can intuit things about an evolving company that is beyond pure analytical evaluation.

I don't see it as an entry level role. The level of trust and commitment required is comparable to C-suite but wrapped in humility. Assistants wear all hats & are often the most front facing contact to represent the leader and the company. A great assistant is sponge & membrane.

The role requires the highest level of emotional intelligence which is very difficult to cultivate if you aren't naturally inclined. It's an exceptionally important person who can steer morale and support from subtlety instead of power.
