I invest mostly in biotech these days, and I invest my own money so I don't optimize for returns, I optimize for getting to spend more time with my friends and family. I mostly invest in referrals and don't really seek out deals, hence less need to market myself.

Honestly I thought about going into venture 10 years ago. I had breakfast with a friend who is one of the best ones out there, and he confirmed my conclusion that venture was becoming more of a sales and marketing job than anything else. Not what I want to do for a living, so..

Actually the money side is easy. It's the entrepreneurs that they have to market to now, and the tech entrepreneurs have gotten more obnoxious. The bio people are like the EEs of the 90s, smart and nerdy, much more my style.

I met one of my biggest investments right after the Theranos story came out. They were doing a blood testing device that only required a single drop of blood, and the cofounder I met had just dropped out of Stanford his freshman year to pursue it. I had to say yes lol
