i wish we had an idea of why this is orders of magnitude less deadly than sars-1 / mers, and or why it will stay that way. that's the whole big factor on the damn thing. it's worth preparing defences if it is the case, but is it worth shutting everything down again? probably not

MERS is like 20 - 50% fatal, SARS-CoV-2 is like 0.1-1% prevax (though could be as bad as 5-10% with no treatment and a really vulnerable pop), and it's like 0.01% post vax.

There's nothing we can do about the hypothetical possibility of covid mutating into something like MERS, and if that does happen then it was nice knowing everybody.

actually I have an investment in @Ligandal / @nanogenomic which is quite explicitly something that should work against most variants even after a brekthrough infection -- stops further spread by binding to the ace-2 receptor. so I think this and ventilation and tracking help
