damn, this drives exactly the dynamics to be worried about, hidden transmission and the traditional contagiousness/severity/lethality tradeoff is disconnected.https://twitter.com/imgrund/status/1418646873531949057 …

at least the state is asserting its authority. zerocovid seems impossible now but with vaccines, travel quarantines, and contact tracing, masks in public settings it may still be manageable for most. sucks that we still haven’t scaled mRNA vax enough / that so many are hesistant

I am traveling accross France right now, and 1/4 of my friends are antivax. Note: my friends are made of more originals, globe trotters-travelers, and antisystem folks than the median french population. Also think they know better, while they have superficial knowledge.

They do not believe in institutional knowledge ("CDC < wistleblower doctors"). They do not really understand how academic knowledge is built ("big pharma money & politicians > researcher-academics ethic")

i can understand that a bit, but yeah people have a more more conspiratorial expectation than the reality once you actually meet people who are doing stuff. most people are good, or at least try to be. collective behavior is sometimes biased, corrupted or messed up, but mostly ok

This culturally open minded & international minority in front of me reads shady sources, make scientifically shady statements while i cite peer reviewed large scale CDC papers with sample size = 20 M, yet i cannot make them see the difference. They prefer to "agree to disagree".

It's really disappointing for the human race. How can we fight our big challenge if the majority is focused on the present, purchasing power and social status; while a notable part of the anti-system "rebels" have shitty understanding of sciences: the study-observation of reality
