Fully vaccinated people can contract & transmit COVID, which is why it's important to wear masks indoors AND on planes. Close to 60 of the Texas House of Reps’ 67 Democrats departed Austin on two charter flights to the nation’s capital. Now 3 have tested positive for COVID. https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/1416464984456957958 …pic.twitter.com/NsXfIIynHj

So, given the significant vaccine risks (11K have died already with 00K’s more having serious side effects, per VERS) why become vaccinated, esp if previously infected by COVID?

a couple things: these numbers are way off because death post vaccine is different from death due to vaccine, since there are other things people can die of still. (almost?) every death post vaccine is reported the vers, but the vaccine could cause only a fraction of these.

there is good evidence that the vaccine confers a more robust response to future infections than previous infection, & there is also good evidence that the mRNA vaccines can alleviate symptoms of long covid, perhaps by training the body to clear the virus & viral fragments faster

it’s an open question how long immunity extends past prior exposure, again, there is good evidence that a vaccine extends it and confers better and longer resistance

it’s a reasonable question to ask though, since there are side effects (though severe ones are rare) with the vaccines, and if you’ve had the disease before you will have some immunity. weighing all the factors, the cdc recommends you still get vaxxed, though, and I do too…
