near the end of my grandfather's life he had to use a hearing aid: it was super bad! it would actually cause high pitched feedback *in his ear* that everyone would hear & would make it impossible to listen. for events I attached a boom mic to over ear headphones & we could talk

the tech seemed overoptimized for battery life, size and to look unobtrusive (it was a beige color, and small) with old technology. there's no need for this!

Are they really that close? Cochlear implants are upwards of $20k iirc, and definitely pretty different technologically.
