To maximize possible voter turnout in the US it would help if elections were held on weekends or if election days were made into holidays. (like in other democratic voting countries)

Well, it OUGHT to be the priority. I'm not convinced that all politicians see it that way, in the US or in the UK. However voter suppression has odd effects: "if voting made a difference, they'd ban it" was used to get the indigenous vote out in AZ in 2020.
