Want to give a shout out to some of my favorite programs that help teens to have agency in their education! I recommend these to teens who are looking to do an independent study high school year.

Worked with a 14 year old whose private high school said she could take a gap year but wouldn't count any of her time away from the classroom towards her 10th grade year. Total bullshit. Enroll somewhere that counts project/real life learning for credit.

Also reading The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education written in 1991. Curious to see how it holds up over time! If anyone wants to bookclub this with me, grab a copy (sadly out of print so expensive) and we'll do a Clubhouse on it.

I felt like that book was too underwhelming even when I first read it.

Fascinating! Yeah I’m curious to see what I think of it. Did you like anything else in the same vein?

There's a HUGE difference between what an unschooling handbook for normal people should look like and what one for extremely high achievers should look like. Also the main point of unschooling is to create individuals who don't NEED to even pretend to fulfill requirements.
