idk, the problem is like, 3-6 orders of magnitude bigger than people want to deal with mentally, and giant engineering projects fail all the time, civilizations fall. if the first outpost on mars doesn’t turn into roanoke 2.0 it will be a miracle
i mean, as an engineer give me the problem of keeping something alive and in equilibrium over reviving something dead or that never was 10000x

Yea, 0-1 vs 1-n. But human extinction is n-0, and killing everyone everywhere seems much harder than developing the tech and will for meaningful interplanetary colonization. A global nuclear war could destroy civilization but not humanity itself.

you assume we ultimately get there. civilization can fall a long way, without nukes, bioweapons for climate change. and actually getting a sustainable civilization on mars is insanely difficult
