it will come as no surprise that i'm not a huge fan of the US military, but credit where credit is due: they did put a lot of effort into reducing on-base energy expenditures, and the nuclear industry came directly out of Admiral Rickover et. al's work on nuclear ships/subs

compare to bitcoin where by design it's a contentious competitive process to burn energy -- it's part of the design. forgive my pessimism; improvements in energy efficiency of hashing scales the difficulty! it's an energy trap unlike other industries.
